Get on board with Fraikin in 2009

Fraikin is currently working to recruit new commercial vehicle apprentices for its nationwide network of service branches. With a fleet of over 14,000 commercial vehicles under its management, life in a Fraikin service workshop is constantly challenging and applicants must be hard-working team players who are prepared to learn a lot of new skills on the road to becoming fully qualified technicians.

What will it involve?

Fraikin has enhanced its training scheme to ensure maximum support is delivered to apprentices throughout the new three year programme. Successful candidates will receive on-the-job instruction as part of the Fraikin team, with formal training carried out over a series of three 10 day block-release periods per year.

This training takes place within the Transport Technology Centre at the City of Bristol College – a state-of the-art facility dedicated to providing commercial vehicle training. Travel, accommodation and subsistence are paid by Fraikin during these block release periods, with accommodation arranged with local families vetted by the college.

At the end of each year the Fraikin Apprentice of the Year scheme recognises apprentices who have demonstrated the very highest levels of performance. In addition there will be a formal mentoring scheme, with each apprentice appointed a mentor who is based locally and can provide support throughout the three years of training. A contribution towards setting up your toolbox demonstrates the importance that Fraikin places on attracting the right apprentices for the business, ensuring you have the best tools for your job and developing you to the best of your ability. On completing your apprenticeship and reaching the age of 21, Fraikin will also ensure you have the opportunity to take your LGV test which will be fully funded by the company.

Fully qualified

Once you have trained as a commercial vehicle technician you will be able to service vehicles and identify faults. You will be qualified to use highly sophisticated service diagnostic equipment and understand the workings of electrical systems. Working as a Fraikin commercial vehicle technician involves operating as part of a team with your colleagues in the branch to make sure all of our customers receive a professional service, when their vehicles are inspected, serviced and repaired.
