Key Accountabilities:

The Branch administrator works as part of a team which covers all the administrative functions within the Branch. Each job holder may undertake (after training) part or all of the duties within the team as required by the General Manager.

Key Accountabilities:

Workshop - Ensure that all vehicles allocated to the Branch are scheduled for service and administered in line with company procedures and customer requirements including:

• Maintenance scheduling, booking services and updating system for all vehicles
• Escalating queries over repairs and costs as necessary

The order replaces 10 Daily AGiles and five standard Daily 3.5 tonners based at the catering butcher’s production and distribution centre in London, where they have been in service since December 2005.

Mike Reid, Group National Transport Manager of Fairfax Meadow, says: “Our decision to replace like-for-like is based wholly on the performance of the Daily AGiles over the last four years.  Despite each clocking up 200,000 miles on roads where the average speed is just 8mph, downtime has been absolutely minimal and we’ve not had to replace any gearboxes. 

“Specifying the AGile transmission has without doubt saved us money, increased fleet uptime and made a demanding job more comfortable for our drivers.  I’m confident we have the best possible light commercial on the market for urban distribution, with excellent back-up and support from both Fraikin and Iveco.”

The new vehicles join a fleet of 35 Dailys in Kentish Town, distributing chilled and frozen meat across the South East of England. 

Fairfax Meadow’s decision to renew its contract hire agreement with Fraikin extends a relationship which began in 1996 and now sees the Coventry-based contract hire specialist supply 100 per cent of the light commercials, rigids and tractor units in its fleet.  This latest full service contract hire agreement covers each Daily AGile for inspections, repair & maintenance, road fund licensing, 24 hour breakdown support, MOTs and tyres, with servicing carried out at Fraikin’s branch in Enfield.

Fairfax Meadow operates a fleet of over 65 commercial vehicles.

This major trailer replacement programme will allow City Link to fine tune its hub and spoke operation using 236 purpose-built Don Burr trailers which will offer the best operational service, efficiency and performance.  These factors are critical to City Link’s operation, with the company being the only carrier in the UK to offer a pre-7:30am next day delivery service to major UK cities.

Commenting on the new strategy, Phil Duckworth, Operations Director at City Link explains: “Switching to curtainsiders allows us to use larger cages which can be loaded and unloaded exclusively by forklift truck.  In comparison with our existing box trailers this will cut loading times by around 70 per cent, whilst also delivering further health and safety improvements as staff will no longer have to manually roll the cages on and off the trailers by hand.

“Fraikin’s ability to help us make such a radical change to our fleet highlights the flexibility of our relationship, which began in 1997.  Despite this being a complex exercise, we’ve been able to work quickly together to ensure the new fleet began entering service this autumn, with each of the new trailers being supplied on six year full service contract hire agreements,” he adds.

The trailer delivery has been split into two phases, with delivery of an initial batch of 80 trailers due to be completed by the end of the year.  A further 156 new trailers will be built and delivered into service by Fraikin during 2010.

The specialist nature of the new trailers requires regular servicing and maintenance, which will be managed by Fraikin as part of the new contract hire agreement.  This will include the provision of tyres and comprehensive breakdown support, giving City Link a cost-effective solution that’s inline with its revised transport and security strategy.

Fraikin has also taken over the fleet management responsibility for 119 trailers previously maintained by another supplier.

All of the double deck box trailers being de-fleeted during 2009 and 2010 will be prepared for sale by Fraikin’s in-house used asset team, with trailers ranging in age from two to six years.

Spread over three acres alongside the busy Bristol Road South, this new sales site has the potential to display up to 350 vehicles of all shapes and sizes, from 3.5 tonne vans to 44 tonne tractor units and trailers.

It marks the first commercial activity to take place on this land since the majority of the MG Rover site closed in 2005.  It also brings a significant amount of new business for the neighbouring Car Spa, which has signed an agreement with Fraikin to valet clean all of the used Fraikin vehicles arriving in Longbridge.

Commenting on the opening, Alistair Wood, Fraikin’s Procurement and Services Director, says: “We wanted a high profile site which would generate both passing trade and be easy for buyers to reach - this area of land at Longbridge was available and ideal for our requirements.  It will enable us to keep a wide-ranging stock of vans, trucks and trailers on-site at any one time, so there will truly be ’something for everyone’.”

“A key attraction of the site in Longbridge was the adjacent valet cleaning firm, which is literally on our doorstep.  This has enabled us to reinvest directly back into the local area by providing them with a significant portion of new business,” he adds.

Expected to generate significant interest is a large volume of dry freight double-deck Gray & Adams Trailers, varying between two and four years old, which will be arriving on site in batches over the next six months.

Chris Butcher, Head of Used Vehicle Sales at Fraikin, adds: “The new site in Longbridge will allow us to enhance the customer experience for buying used vehicles.  Unlike many sites, which are tucked away on industrial estates, we’re in a prominent location with good access, plenty of parking and a huge selection of vehicles to choose from.  It’s like a car supermarket for the commercial vehicle sector.”

It will support Fraikin’s two existing used vehicle sales sites in Garretts Green and Leeds.

The order includes six 3.5 tonne Toyota pick-up trucks, eight 7.5 tonne Isuzu rigids and 19 DAF LF 55 tonne rigids, each supplied on a comprehensive five year full service contract hire agreement. The rigids are fitted with flatbed bodies with safety railings and two pairs of steps on each side, to enable safe and easy access for the driver and to guard against falls from the lorry bed.

Mandy Gill, Transport Manager at CPL Distribution, says: “We’ve contract hired part of our fleet in the past, but until now we’ve only had a handful of vehicles from Fraikin. We shopped around trialling different suppliers and liked the service we experienced from Fraikin, which led to them winning this latest order.

“Contract hire works well for our business as it ensures fixed running costs and a single point of contact, which is especially important as our fleet is widely spread across 32 different depots nationwide,” she adds.

The fleet will be used primarily to deliver a range of solid fuels to private households, commercial customers and garage forecourts. The mixed fleet ensures CPL Distribution can make both small and bulk deliveries economically, with the fleet of pick-ups ideal for accessing narrow rural lanes and making deliveries to houses with restricted access.

Each of the new vehicles supplied by Fraikin is covered for full servicing, maintenance, repair and MOTs, carried out by a combination of Fraikin’s own branch network and approved third-party repairers. The contract hire agreement also includes road fund licensing, tyres and 24/7 emergency roadside assistance.

At the end of the five year contract, CPL Distribution can return the vehicles to Fraikin, without the uncertainties associated with residual values and used vehicle disposal.
