Office stationery and supplies company Lyreco has taken delivery of its 100th vehicle from Fraikin, following a decision last July to adopt a policy of full service contract hire for all new commercial vehicles joining the fleet.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 411 is the first vehicle in the Lyreco fleet to be fitted with a digital tachograph and is based at the company’s depot in Manchester, one of 20 regional distribution centres in the UK. Lyreco will increase its Sprinter 411 fleet by a further 35 in 2006, bringing the total fleet up to 375 units.
All vehicles will eventually be supplied by Fraikin, which works in partnership with Lyreco to ensure Lyreco’s commitment of a guaranteed next day delivery is met for all its customers in the UK.
Alistair Wood, Logistics Director at Lyreco explains: “Contract hire replaces our previous procurement policy which involved a combination of operating leases and locally sourced maintenance. Fraikin’s ability to manage the maintenance and fleet administration on top of providing the funding is proving a great benefit to our business.”
“As our sole supplier of new commercial vehicles, I would expect over half of our fleet to be on four year contract hire deals with Fraikin by the end of 2006,” he adds.
The contract with Fraikin includes collection and delivery of vehicles for servicing, together with maintenance, MOTs, road fund licensing, tyres and comprehensive breakdown support. At the end of the contract term, each vehicle is returned to Fraikin, meaning Lyreco has none of the hassles typically associated with vehicle disposal.
Lyreco in the UK is a fully owned operating subsidiary of the Lyreco Group, which operates extensively throughout Europe, Canada and Asia. It has a network of 27 subsidiaries worldwide, delivering over 215,000 products per day to its worldwide customer base.
