Chester-le-Street based Skyline Scaffolding Ltd has extended its contract hire deal with Fraikin, replacing two 7.5 tonne Isuzu NQRs and acquiring a third permanent vehicle for the fleet – a 3.5 tonne Isuzu NKR.
The two 7.5 tonners replace similar vehicles originally supplied in 2001, whilst the 3.5 tonner takes over a role which had previously been filled by a vehicle on short term rental. Fitted with dropside bodies designed to accommodate 6.3m long scaffolding poles, each vehicle is expected to cover up to 35,000 miles a year.
The five year contract hire agreement includes repair and maintenance, MOTs, road fund licensing, tyres and comprehensive breakdown support. At the end of the contract the vehicles are simply returned to Fraikin, meaning Skyline Scaffolding has none of the problems associated with vehicle disposal.
“Fraikin has consistently proved its abilities to manage our fleet efficiently, which made renewing the contract a straightforward decision,” says Ernie Payne, Operations Director of Skyline Scaffolding.
“We choose to contract hire as it means we can leave the hassles of owning and maintaining our fleet to the experts, leaving us free to concentrate on the core business of erecting scaffolding. Acquiring new vehicles also represents a significant financial outlay, but with contract hire we can spread the cost across a five year period, with fixed monthly costs,” he adds.
Skyline Scaffolding is a long established supplier of contract scaffolding in the North East, with four gangs of scaffolders working on small and medium sized contracts across the region.
