Menzies clocks up a century with Fraikin

Time-critical logistics specialist, Menzies Distribution, has taken delivery of its 100th vehicle on full service contract hire from Fraikin, as part of an order for ten new Isuzu NQR 7.5 tonners.

Each of the vehicles have been supplied on a five year agreement and are fitted with fast action reflex curtainside bodies, manufactured by Glasgow-based Tekbo, to make deliveries easier for the drivers.

They will operate on multi drop distribution routes from various locations across the UK, making daily deliveries of newspapers and magazines to retailers ranging from supermarkets to independent newsagents.

Stuart McLean, Logistics Manager at Menzies Distribution, explains: “Choosing a professional and dependable supplier is critical to our business as our whole operation is focused around delivering a high volume of the shortest shelf life product to a higher number of consumers than any other supply chain in the UK.

“We took delivery of our first vehicle from Fraikin 18 months ago and from then the relationship has really taken off.  In addition to offering a cost-effective contract hire solution, Fraikin operates an efficient ordering process with excellent account management, supported by a proven branch network,” he adds.

The new Isuzu’s join a 193-strong fleet, with Fraikin expected to supply at least 75 per cent of this by 2008.  They each cover on average 30,000 miles a year and are being supplied under a deal which includes collection and delivery for servicing, repair and maintenance, road fund licensing, tyres and comprehensive breakdown support.

Menzies Distribution took delivery of its first Isuzu two years ago on trial, and this latest order follows their continued good performance, in particular their favourable fuel consumption with the Nees 2 Easyshift transmission.  This latest delivery increases the total number of Isuzu’s operated by Menzies to 43 units.
