Office stationery and supplies company Lyreco is in the process of taking delivery of 84 new light commercials on a four year full service contract hire agreement from Fraikin Ltd, the UK-arm of Europe’s largest commercial vehicle fleet services provider.
The order includes 40 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 511s (5.0 tonne GVW) and 44 Ford Transits (3.5 tonne GVW), marking the first diesel-powered Transits to join the company’s fleet of nearly 400 commercial vehicles. It continues a relationship with Fraikin which began in July 2005, when the company was appointed as its sole supplier of commercial vehicles on contract hire.
Alistair Wood, Logistics Director at Lyreco, explains: “An added benefit of the contract hire deal sees Fraikin provide us with a suite of detailed monthly fleet management reports. These highlight vehicle trends and allow us to closely monitor the performance of each vehicle in the fleet, flagging up any breakdowns or repairs, the primary reason for the work being carried out and any vehicle downtime incurred.
“Operating an efficient and reliable fleet is essential to our company’s continued growth, and this level of support is critical to ensuring we meet our commitment of providing a guaranteed next day delivery service for all customers in the UK,” he adds.
The contract with Fraikin also includes collection and delivery of vehicles for servicing, together with maintenance, MOTs, road fund licensing, tyres and comprehensive breakdown support. At the end of the contract term, each vehicle is returned to Fraikin, meaning Lyreco has none of the hassles typically associated with vehicle disposal.
This latest delivery of vehicles is comprised primarily of fleet replacements and will be spread across Lyreco’s nationwide network of 20 regional distribution centres, with each van expected to cover up to 30,000 miles a year and on the road up to six days a week.
Other services provided by Fraikin include up-to-date market assessments of new vehicle launches, allowing the company to benefit from the experience of one of the country’s largest fleet operators when considering its future fleet requirements.
Lyreco in the UK is a fully owned operating subsidiary of the Lyreco Group, which operates extensively throughout Europe, Canada and Asia. It has a network of 28 subsidiaries worldwide, delivering over 215,000 products per day to its worldwide customer base.
