Driver Certificate of Professional Competence

With new legislation being introduced surrounding the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), Fraikin is well ahead of the game in being able to support its customers by delivering a comprehensive CPC training programme.

Approved training centre status

Fraikin has been certified by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training as an approved training centre with an accredited course syllabus that covers both the LGV and PCV elements of the Driver CPC.

To ensure that delegate travelling is kept to a minimum, Fraikin has four registered locations where training can be provided – with the course open to both Fraikin customers and to third party fleets.  Courses will be conducted in purpose-built facilities within selected sites around our depot network.  These include:

South: Heathrow
Midlands:  Oldbury
North: Warrington
Scotland: Dumfries

For the address of these locations, together with travel directions, please click here.

Fraikin is also happy to offer an in-house training facility for customers looking to provide training to larger numbers of drivers at the same time.  For further information on this service, please click here.

Who are our trainers?

Our trainers have many years experience in the industry and are used to working alongside and helping to develop drivers.

What is our course syllabus?

To ensure all delegates receive the highest and most appropriate level of training possible we have split the courses into core modules and job specific modules. Each module lasts for one day (seven hours in duration) and by attending the four core modules and one job specific module, drivers will have achieved the necessary 35 hours of periodic training.  Further information on the core modules and job specific modules is described below:

Core modules

Each individual must attend all of these courses as part of his/her ongoing training.

Health, road and environmental safety
Module objective: To ensure that all delegates are aware of the risks of the road, incidents and their contributing factors.  The course also deals with the steps drivers can take to prevent incidents from occurring.

Customer service and corporate image
Module objective: To ensure that all delegates understand the importance of good customer service and corporate image and the valuable role that they play in helping a company to deliver that.

Vehicle safety control systems familiarisation and fuel efficiency
Module objective: To ensure that all delegates are familiar with and understand the necessary controls to operate their commercial vehicle in a safe and fuel efficient manner.

The rules and regulations governing the road transport and passenger carrying industries
Module objective: To ensure that all delegates understand the rules and regulations which govern professional driving.

Job specific modules

Delegates must then choose one of the following two job specific modules, dependant on their everyday work:

LGV specific regulations, loading and best practice
Module objective: To ensure that all delegates understand the regulations concerning the carriage of goods and how to load a commercial vehicle in the correct manner.

OR

PSV specific regulations, loading and best practice
Module objective: To ensure that all delegates understand the regulations covering the carriage of passengers and how to ensure their safety and comfort at all times.

Course dates

A programme of training delivery dates for each of the above courses is currently being planned, with a view to each module being available at the four locations on a regular basis – to guarantee maximum availability and convenience for both sponsoring companies and drivers.

The course dates, prices and information on how to book will be published on this website as soon as they are available.
