Mobility solutions expert, Fraikin, has delivered five new 18-tonne rigid trucks into construction supplier Tremco CPG UK, as part of a five-year, full-service contract hire agreement. The new vehicles will help the business transition away from using freight forwarders, a shift that is projected to yield an annual six-figure saving.

A fleet of five Tremco trucks parked in a row in front of a warehouse.

Strengthening a 13-year relationship between the two companies, the new ADR-spec curtainside rigids represent a mix of new additions and replacements in Tremco CPG’s nine-strong, Fraikin-supplied commercial vehicle fleet. Three replace older vehicles at the company’s Crayford depot – including upgrading two 7.5-tonners – while the remaining trucks will spearhead a new in-house operation in Leicester, providing greater control over deliveries previously managed externally.

Martin Haggart, Logistics Director, Tremco CPG UK, says: “Using freight forwarders worked for a time, but as our volumes have grown and our network has expanded it became increasingly costly, so we needed to change tack.

“Fraikin has helped us tailor the fleet to meet our specific requirements. Now we’re able to offer more efficient deliveries, providing customers with improved visibility and accountability. The move could save us in the region of £150,000 a year. The work Fraikin has done has been invaluable, especially considering our fleet is spread across multiple regions and product lines.”

The new trucks have been supplied with all servicing, repairs, road fund licencing, regular safety inspections, annual MOT testing, tyre management, roadside assistance and 24/7, 365 customer support – creating a full-service offering from Fraikin that guarantees total peace of mind.

Tremco CPG UK will also benefit from Fraikin’s easy-to-use online web portal, FRAIKinVIEW, which provides a complete overview of all scheduled maintenance work and the ability to track and monitor progress.

Fraikin worked closely with Tremco CPG UK and its chosen body builder to ensure ADR-compliance, allowing the trucks to transport hazardous materials alongside the company’s range of waterproofing, resin flooring, fire protection, glazing, façades, insulation and roofing products. The vehicle specification also included a reduced roof height to maximise fuel efficiency.

Mark Bunker, Business Development Manager at Fraikin, says: “Our work with Tremco highlights how contract hire can help to reshape a company’s distribution model. For Martin and his team, it was about gaining control, cutting costs, and building a scalable fleet. We’re proud to have supported their shift from third-party freight to a more agile solution.”

The Crayford-based vehicles will handle deliveries across the Greater London area and the Kent corridor, with those operating from Leicester serving the Midlands, reaching cities including Birmingham, Peterborough, Sheffield, and as far south as Luton. On the road five days a week, the five rigids are each expected to cover up to 45,000 miles annually.

Founded in 1930 and headquartered in Wigan, Tremco CPG UK manufactures and supplies high-performance construction products and solutions.
