Environmental services company, Tradebe Healthcare, has worked with Fraikin for the supply of its first-ever electric vehicle (EV), in a move projected to cut 14,000kg of CO2 emissions per year.

Fraikin Tradebe Healthcare

Supplied by Fraikin on a five-year full-service contract hire agreement, the fully electric 3.5-tonne van is based at Tradebe Healthcare’s Rochester depot. The new vehicle replaces an older diesel model and will collect medical waste from London ambulance stations for processing and disposal.

Mark Grant, Supply Chain Manager at Tradebe Healthcare, says: “Utilising Fraikin’s experience and expertise we knew the specification of the van would perfectly suit our operation. Working in London, it ensures we will remain ULEZ compliant, while also helping us meet our sustainability goals as a business – we’re looking at a saving of around 14 tonnes of carbon per year.”

Working closely with Tradebe Healthcare, Fraikin conducted a detailed evaluation of the company’s operation to ensure the right vehicle was chosen, concluding that the available payload capacity and a potential 352km range meant the new van was more than capable of working the 160km Rochester to London route.

To support the move, Fraikin provided dedicated EV infrastructure support, assisting with the installation of a charging point at Tradebe Healthcare’s Rochester site. The contract hire agreement also includes all servicing, repairs, regular safety inspections, annual MOT testing, tyre management and 24/7 roadside assistance.

The van is fitted with a full suite of connected technologies, which through Fraikin’s MYSMARTFLEET platform allows for data-derived driver behaviour analysis and additional safety services, such as instant crash alerts, as well as driver walkaround vehicle checks to ensure continued vehicle compliance.

Mark Bunker, Regional Sales Manager at Fraikin, says: “We were delighted to help Tradebe Healthcare move into an electric future, it’s great to see that the new van is already delivering results. This is a positive first step and we look forward to supporting the team as they expand their electric fleet further.”

Tradebe Healthcare, part of global parent company Tradebe, provides integrated clinical waste management, treatment and disposal from its sites across the UK. Its new van – expected to cover 30,000 miles annually – joins a Fraikin-exclusive fleet of 43 vehicles.
